While the hurdles of technical skill and cost have deterred many, there are easy and no- or low-cost resources available.  In a recent webinar hosted with the Center for Women and Enterprise, Vision Advertising’s Catrina Gardner shared how anyone and everyone can get started in design work for their business; no expensive app or art degree required! Read on for a recap and a link to the webinar recording.

Graphic Design Webinar with the CWE

If you’re familiar with Vision Advertising, you may know Catrina as our communications manager and internship supervisor—but she’s much more than that. Prior to joining Vision, Catrina used her degree in graphic design and studio art to successfully start her career in print design. During that time, her designs were sold at Home Goods, Bed Bath & Beyond, and in small décor shops across the country. With this experience, Catrina’s now a design-driven marketing professional; in her current role, she’s responsible for all of Vision’s design needs both for clients and our own agency.

Given this expertise, Catrina was able to partner with the Center for Women and Enterprise (CWE) of Central Massachusetts to host a webinar helping local business owners get their feet wet with design. In this workshop, she went over:

  • Graphic design basics including use of space, balance, and color
  • Foundations in visual hierarchy, lines and shapes, and typography
  • Free and user-friendly resources available to the masses

Catrina ended the webinar with a quick tutorial of the popular and free design software, Canva, during which she showed attendees how to implement everything she’d covered prior by showing them real-time examples.
