Essential Skills & Abilities

Results-Oriented Experience with Marketing, Innovation and Creativity

The DMO must be skilled in marketing and have an innovative and creative mind.  There are always new ways to approach things, and it is our job to make that happen.  Applicants must have experience with assembling, executing and managing many successful marketing plans in the recent past, with the ability to easily explain each element, and point to its success or failure with clarity.  Results are a key element of marketing plans, and as such, applicants are encouraged to have case studies prepared for discussion at the interview stage.

Exemplary Organizational Skills

The DMO can only be successful if attention to detail and an exceptional ability to juggle many things at the same time are present.  The role requires seamless tracking of several clients, programs, team members, vendors, receivables, as well as the oversight and introduction of automation technology.  Applicants should be prepared to discuss current preferred systems and proposed systems or approaches he/she could bring to the role.

Strength and Reliability

The role of the DMO is to be a thought leader in the organization, a mentor for team members and a trusted, reliable expert in the marketing field.  That said, there are many demands of the role, and the ability to remain cool under pressure is critical.  Applicants with the required experience will understand that surprises can happen, and the ability to respond with grace, and swift, accurate judgement is a non-negotiable requirement of the role.  Applicants should be prepared to discuss challenges and outcomes both personally and professionally.

Quality-Centered Leadership and Ownership

Our ideal DMO will be a motivated, self-directed, energetic leader that is never satisfied with status quo.  This person will demand excellence from themselves, from the team, and from the clients, never settling for less than the best.  Applicants must have a history of providing solid leadership and inspiration for teams of at least 5 employees, and must be prepared to discuss challenges and successful outcomes with his/her own efforts, team projects and client partnerships.

Strong Communication Skills

The DMO is a social chameleon that commands respect from all.  This is the DMO that dazzles client shareholders in the boardroom, and builds solid interpersonal relationships one-on-one at the sushi bar later with yet another client.  It is essential that applicants are well-spoken, polished and eloquent in verbal and written communication.
