I thought about my answer more. I still don’t have a lot of time to attend a lot of events about this. But, I do think we need to do things. I really like the environmental credit trading things that are being discussed now - and are popular in Europe where polluting companies buy credits from environmentally conscious companies. It creates a financial incentive for companies to do more. I think it’d be cool if there was a way for individuals to do the same thing. Maybe wealthy people or companies would buy credits that individuals could earn $ from being environmentally conscious.

I’m pretty new to the green movement, but I do see it as an important initiative. I would like to learn about ways a small business can help reduce pollution (best practices). In addition, it would be great if business had a unified voice in the political arena. Many consider pro-business and pro-environment as diametrically opposing forces. They don’t need to be. Profitability and Environmental Protection should not be positioned as mutually exclusive. I commend you, Laura, for bringing this issue to the business community.

With respect to marketing and networking opportunities, I find that common interests, such as the environment, that bring people together for a good cause can many times spark more meaningful business relationship than the events run for the sole purpose of networking.

Networking. Helping “green” businesses get started and established, growing and prospering, and proliferating.
I think that one of the best new opportunities for new American businesses is the ecologically-focused business arena. Even the Chinese are going to need help digging out of the mess they are in….

The most basic benefit that I would expect is some sort of a link exchange b between member businesses. This would make it easy to quickly find member companies in the area (or around the world), and make it easy for them to find my company. At the center of it all would be the WGBA website that could include a searchable index of member businessess and a forum for business leaders to share ideas for running a greener business.
